Blog video review Mod. 8

1. Explain why you selected the video you choose from the selection listed above.
I honestly choose the second video A World Inscribed: The Illuminated Manuscript
because the title seemed pretty interesting, but the video wouldn't work so I choose the one under it.
2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
More Human Than Human:
  • Images of the body is important in Art history
  • Images of the human body in art history always have one thing in common, there usually not realistic
  • Color being over exaggerated in art is another form of surrealism
  • Artist use unrealistic body images in their work because people don't like reality

3. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
The videos relates to the readings in the text because they explain and give examples in depth of the history of body images in art. The video and reading showed special and great attention to the Ancient Egyptian culture because they were some of the first artist that showed unrealistic human body images.
4. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?
I enjoyed both films, the film more human than human I didn't really 100% agree with, because I don't think artist make unrealistic body images because they dislike reality, I think it's because that's what they want to do, simple.

Blog Video Review

1. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.

  • Art relates to Architecture in so many ways, just like art Architecture is just shapes and material
  • You begin with a sketch, until the final piece is completed
  • Different Architect build in their own special way, just like artist do
  • Art is also similar to Architecture because arts have creative freedom, and a connection between culture and history

  •  New buildings reduce energy use by 20-30%
  • A Sustainability agenda is important for all companies.
  • Sustainability in Architecture is a trend, but it shouldn't be. It should be something that should be around forever
  • Architecture in China apartment buildings are energy savers (Great idea for all buildings)

2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
The videos relate to the readings because both videos show how Architects are basically artist.
3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of Architecture?
I enjoyed both films personally. It's amazing that art is everywhere, simply because colors, shapes, sizes, designs, etc. are everywhere. I think its cool that Architects are considered artist. Also it's "usable" art, we live, go to school, and work in a living art piece.
4. Why did you choose the films that you watched?
I picked these two films because I'm all for anything thats sustainable or working towards that. It's important for our environment. I also wanted to see how the first video related to art, and it allowed me to understand Architecture more.

Blog review

Jimmy Banks:
Project 1

Project 2

Matt Edwards
 Project 1

Project 2

1.When looking at Project #1: (Elements and Principles), did you agree with the element or principle the artist listed with the images? Did you see other elements and principles in the images?
Yes both guys showed their knowledge on the elements and principles of design, and of course just like most artwork each image they provided included more than one element and principle of design.
2. When looking at Project #2: Where there any images in the Peer Blogs the same as your own? If yes, what were they? Where the reasons the image was selected the same or different as your own?
Yes. Jimmy and I both had an Abstract art piece. The reason was the same, I believe that he likes abstract art also because he felt a connection with the artwork.
3. Where there any images that your Peers selected that pique your interest now? If yes, what are they and what is your connection with them? What would you want to know about them?
As I stated before Jimmy had an abstract piece that I enjoyed. The piece is Frantisek - Czeck   Traits, plans, profounder (lines, Planes, Depth).  I just see greatness in abstract art because there are always hidden messages. I would like to know what the artist was thinking and what was the goal of this painting.
4. What do you think about  the process of reading your peers reflection? Do you find this to be a valuable in your learning?
I think the process was helpful. Helpful because you get a personal view on how other peoples creative mind works. Everyone looks at things differently especially art, so I enjoyed getting other peoples perspective.
5. Check your Blog and read comments posted by your Peers. Do you find their comments helpful?
Yes. Feedback of any kind is always helpful. Constructive criticism helps people progress. It's also interesting to see how other people view your work in general.

Blog video discussions

1. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
Through the eyes of the Sculpture
Carving shop that involved a warehouse built out of stone. Under the streets where the Artist live are tunnels made of limestone miles and miles long.
  • Every stone has a unique smell
  • Machines cuts blocks of stone out of the underground warehouse, once the stones are cut into smaller pieces the stones can be taken out and worked with.
  • The stones are heavier when coming out of the warehouse because the stones start off wet
  • The stone can be cut as easy as wood with the right tools. In the video the warehouse workers used large saw machines to slice and dice the stones into desired size
  • Mountains have been a great natural resource for marble for thousands of years, and marble is the product of limestone. It's baked and squeezed and crushed together when tectonic plates collided 50 million years ago (Interesting fact)
Glass and Ceramic
  • Glass is everywhere. It's made form sand which is abundant resource of the earth.
  • Glass in not a true solid, it's a form of liquid (Interesting fact)
  • Ceramic and glass are some of the oldest man-made materials.
  • Before artist mastered glass artwork, they first mastered ceramics
  • Ceramic is also made from fire, but not with silica like glass
  • Ceramic is a rock (Interesting fact)
  • There are many different grades to ceramic. Depending on the quality raw materials used and the temperature it was made in.
  • Ceramic made in a temp of 1400 degrees will result in fine china and Ceramic made in a temp of 1100 degrees is made for bricks or floor tile (interesting fact)

2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
The videos relates to the readings by giving real life art examples of the the topics discussed in chapters 11 and 12. In the Through the eyes of the Sculpture video many "In the round" sculptures where shown. The topic human figure in sculptures were shown throughout the entire video which is very popular. Each artist in the video showed carving artwork that was done by using a number of different tools. In Glass and Ceramic video the narrator discusses how glass is formed and made and techniques of stain glass windows. Chapter 12 also discusses how glass is made and the uniqueness of stained glass windows.
3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the topics: Sculpture, Installation, and Craft?
I actually enjoyed both videos, both had interesting facts that I didn't know and that the book didn't discuss. The videos added depth by discussing more of how the materials are produced and how the artist produce their work.. such as the techniques they used and specific materials they used for their crafts.
