1. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
Video #1 Frank Gehry: Architecture as Art-
- Art relates to Architecture in so many ways, just like art Architecture is just shapes and material
- You begin with a sketch, until the final piece is completed
- Different Architect build in their own special way, just like artist do
- Art is also similar to Architecture because arts have creative freedom, and a connection between culture and history
- New buildings reduce energy use by 20-30%
- A Sustainability agenda is important for all companies.
- Sustainability in Architecture is a trend, but it shouldn't be. It should be something that should be around forever
- Architecture in China apartment buildings are energy savers (Great idea for all buildings)
2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
The videos relate to the readings because both videos show how Architects are basically artist.
3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of Architecture?
I enjoyed both films personally. It's amazing that art is everywhere, simply because colors, shapes, sizes, designs, etc. are everywhere. I think its cool that Architects are considered artist. Also it's "usable" art, we live, go to school, and work in a living art piece.
4. Why did you choose the films that you watched?
I picked these two films because I'm all for anything thats sustainable or working towards that. It's important for our environment. I also wanted to see how the first video related to art, and it allowed me to understand Architecture more.
