Blog Video Review Mod. 9

1. Explain why you selected each of the TWO videos you choose from the selection listed above.
I choose the first video  The Drawings of Michelangelo because documentary's are always interesting about him. His artwork and skills were incredible and unique. The second video Leonardo da Vinci: The Mind of the Renaissance  I choose because he is also an artist that I admire, but I haven't seen much video's of his life and artwork so I figured I'll start now.
2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.
The Drawing of Michelangelo
  • Michelangelo's drawings were top secret before ( during his life) now they're made public for many people to see (after his life)
  • Michelangelo created many drawings, but only few are left to see.
  • He destroyed most of his drawing artwork, he wasn't confident in some of his work. He was a perfectionist and only wanted the best of his work to be presented.
  • One of his last drawings was of himself being crucified, the same as Jesus
  • He used many tools and unique techniques to create his artwork
  • His small scaled sketches had to drawn and painted on huge ceilings and walls
Leonardo da Vinci: The Mind of the Renaissance
  • He was artist since he was a little boy, and his family knew
  • He learned at a young age how to paint and sculpt from a master artist that his father brought him to, in order to learn
  • His father had many art connections
  • "The eye is the window to the soul"
  • He was interested in the human body and how it worked, he was into dissection
  • Leonardo was much more than a artist who created drawings, sculptures, paintings he was also an architect, engineer, student of anatomy, physiology, botany, architecture, hydrodynamics, and aeronautics

2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
Both videos relates the the readings because the first video is about Michelangelo who artwork was inspired by Christianity, for example one of his greatest pieces was "The Last Supper".. The text also talks greatly about The Renaissance and the second video was about Leonardo's life and he is considered "The Renaissance man".
3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?
Both video's were a little boring, but very informative. The Leonardo video gave me better insight on The Renaissance time period.
