Mod. 11 - Art Gallery Visit #2

Questions about the exhibit:
1. What is the title of the exhibit?
- The title of the exhibit is For the Love of Things Still Life

2. What is the theme of the exhibition?
-There were a few still life themes. Some realistic, abstract and even conceptual.
In the For the Love of Things Still Life there were paintings, photography, sculptures and also 2-D/3-D artwork.

Questions about the physical space:1. What type of lighting is used?
-There we different types of lighting throughout the exhibit. There was a room that was dimly lit and every artwork in that room only had the light from the ceiling. There was also harsh light used for only a section of one of the pieces called "Mixed Media". There was an art piece that was untitled #1373 that had a hard light over the artwork.
2. What colors are used on the walls?
-All of the walls in the Still Life exhibit were white. I think that any other color would've been too distracting, because each artwork is filled with so much color and detail. The contract of the white wall fits the exhibit well.

3. What materials are used in the interior architecture of the space?
-In the still life exhibit there were no special materials used in the interior architecture of space for the artwork like the other exhibits. The rooms all had white walls and mabel floors. I believe it was meant to be simple, because the art pieces were so extraordinary

4. How is the movement of the viewer through the gallery space?
Each room had plenty of space to move around. There were artwork hanging along each wall in each still life room with artwork also in the middle of each room such as 2-D/3-D fixtures.
Questions about the artwork:1. How are the artworks organized?
As I mentioned before in each room there were artwork hanging on each wall of the exhibit, with art pieces in the center of each room as well.
2. How are the artrworks similar?
The artworks were similar because they all represented something of real life.
3. How are the artworks different?
Each artwork was very unique and different. There were all types of mediums used. Some were photography, video, wax, wood and even a paper bag.
4. How are the artworks framed?
There were a few different methods of how the artist framed their artwork. Most paintings were framed in picture, others were just posted as is. Many of the art pieces were not framed at all. There was one piece that was very unique and it was placed inside what looks similar to a huge fish tank.
5. How are the artworks identified and labeled?
Each artwork had a description and label next to the piece. Each artwork had a white paper that listed everything about the art piece on the wall, and if it was a center piece the description would be on the nearest wall.
6. What is the proximity of the artwork to each other?
Each piece was spaced out greatly. Nothing was too close or too far apart from each other.

Artwork Information:

Untitled #1373

Description- In this artwork I see a 3-D rectangle clear box that resembles a glass case or fish tank. Inside the clear container I see flowers. The flowers looks like wedding flowers. The kind that sits on the center piece of the table. It also looks like the wedding cake frosting decor flowers, or spring flowers. The flowers are all over the base of the container and they go up into a bush shaped figurer. The flowers are covered in white wax that resembles frozen snow. It looks like spring time meets an ice storm. There is so much white wax all over the flowers that it's hard to tell what it is until you step up close to the clear container.
Formal Analysis- There are many shapes, lines and shadows that are in this art piece. Even though the main color is white, the color of the pastel flowers still makes a strong mark in this artwork.
Bracketing- As I mentioned before this artwork reminds me of a snow or ice storm meets wedding decor or spring time. It's really cool.
Interpretation- I believe the artist was trying to interpret the passage of time. Or the pretty delicate flowers  ruined by a heavy build up can represent someones innocents being taken away.

After Leslie Left

Description- In this artwork I see a painting of a hot mess. The painting isn't a hot mess, but the artwork is a painting of a hot mess. There are many objects on a coffee table. There are cleaning supplies, magazines, a sponge, a plastic bag, bananas, a feather duster and etc.
Formal Analysis-  There is so much color in this artwork. Many different shapes and designs really makes this piece.
Bracketing- This artwork just reminds me of a lazy person.
dInterpretation- I believe that the title gives us a clear picture of what the Artist is trying to say. After someone's loved one left their life has become a mess. It seems as if the person just gave up and became slightly depressed.

k Mixed media

Description- Pop art. A red kitchen cabinet, with a mini sink with a soap dish on top and also a bright light shinning down on the sink. Inside the cabinet that displays open is cleaning supply, an empty jar and other random objects. To the right of the open cabinet is an abstract piece of artwork and below that artwork is a painting of food products.
j   Formal Analysis- The colors used are very strong. The lighting is a great touch. Many shapes and lines are used and even harsh shadows caused by the lighting.
Bracketing- This artwork is pretty much straight forward. It looks very realist.
Interpretation- The artist is really creative with this piece, I'm not really sure what he's trying to say though.

Final Question: I actually liked going to the gallery with a purpose. It made me more aware of my surroundings. Without having the thought of physical space, architecture and themes in mind I wouldn've had a different experience.
